Live Like a Local - A Day in the Life of a PNW Resident

You’ve heard the stereotypes, but how does your average Pacific Northwest Seattleite spend their day when they’re not working their tech job? Here’s an itinerary if you’d like to experience life like a local in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle.

Morning: Take a Hike

Discovery Park covers more than 530 acres making is one of the city’s largest public parks - and one of the best for a city-adjacent hike. Take the Loop Trail for a 2.8 mile scenic loop through the meadows, forests and along the shoreline.

Late Morning: Hit the Farmers Market

There are several markets throughout the city, like Pike Place, but one of the largest, year-round markets can be found in the Ballard neighborhood every Sunday. It features a variety of local farmers, artisans and food vendors making it one of the most popular for residents who value sustainable and ethical consumption.

Lunch: Eat Sustainable Fare

Speaking of sustainable, since you’re already in Ballard grab some food in the Historic District at one of the many local spots like Gracia is a Mexican restaurant in Ballard that emphasizes using local and sustainable ingredients featuring a variety of tacos, including options with locally sourced meats and seafood. Or Stoneburner offering Mediterranean-inspired cuisine with an emphasis on fresh and locally sourced ingredients, working closely with local farmers and purveyors to create seasonal and flavorful dishes.

Afternoon: Climb Some Indoor Rocks

Practice and develop your climbing skills, strength, and endurance at Edgeworks Climbing + Fitness. Grab a day pass and sign up for introduction or technique class, depending on your level of experience.

Late Afternoon: Drink Some Brewskis

Ballard is known for its thriving craft beer and bar scene. Some neighborhood favorites include The Sloop Tavern, King’s Hardware and Sunset Tavern.

Evening: Dine in Historic District

To cap your picture perfect PNW day, end the evening with a classy dinner at one of the hip restaurants located in Ballard’s Historic District. Enjoy homey italian fare at San Fermo, dine at the oyster bar of The Walrus and the Carpenter, or enjoy (quite possibly) the best steak this side of the Cascades at Asadero.
